The Annual St. Louis Browns Reunion Luncheon

On August 18, 2023

The St. Louis Browns Annual Reunion Luncheon will be held on August 18th at the Missouri Athletic Club, located at 405 Washington Avenue in downtown St. Louis.  This email serves as your formal invitation.  Parking is available in the attached and secure parking garage.  Doors will open at 11:00 and the program will begin at 11:30.  

It will be a guaranteed great time. The Fan Club’s traveling Browns Memorabilia Archives will be set up for you to enjoy before and after the program in the MAC ballroom.  Feel free to bring and showcase your own collection. To get a bigger picture of Browns history before or after the luncheon, simply travel a few blocks south on Broadway to the Field House Museum’s galleries honoring the team’s legacy.  For those also wanting to catch a St. Louis Cardinals game, they are in town during this week playing the Oakland Athletics and the New York Mets to provide you a trifecta of baseball excitement.

We have a great roster of speakers that will please you all.  In our 39 years of dinners and luncheons, we have never had a Baltimore Orioles player (other than Brownies who moved there) speak to our organization. We believe we have the best speaker from their roster of players – Rick Dempsey.  Not only was Rick the MVP of the 1983 World Series, he is one of the most sought after speakers in the game today.  He is just one of three men (along with Tim McCarver and Carlton Fisk) to have played in four decades (60s – 90s). Known as perhaps the best defensive catcher of his era, Rick has played in three World Series and won two championships during his 24 season career. He has since spent over two additional decades as a coach, manager, and analyst across the Major and Minor Leagues. More importantly, he is also known as one of baseball’s premier “funny men.”  Once seen, who could forget his “Babe Ruth” rain –delay antics on the stadium’s tarp?  Rick will bring it all for us to enjoy, so don’t miss it.

We will also provide attendees with a very special opportunity as we will host former Brownie Frank Saucier by video. If you have seen our 2020 interview (on our website) with the 97 year old former slugger, you will know why you want to be a part of this interview once more. Considered the best hitting prospect in college and the Minor Leagues, Frank’s baseball tenure was sidestepped by WWII and the Korean Conflict. We choose to honor that resume as he came to the Browns in 1951.  He was also the player whom Eddie Gaedel pinch-hit for on August 19th. Frank calls it simply “the greatest publicity stunt” in baseball. To tie to that later theme, we will also have professional golfer Jay Delsing provide insights on his dad, Jimmy Delsing’s memories as the player who then pinch- ran for Gaedel.  It will be a great discussion that ties and paints the picture of that special Sunday afternoon moment in 1951.

The luncheon is open to the public.  Our policy continues to insure we give a discount to attendees who are paid Fan Club members.  We work very hard to make this event accessible and affordable to all.  The price of the tickets will be $42 for paid Fan Club members and $52 for their guests or other non-members attending.  For those who cannot make the trip to St. Louis we will offer a Zoom viewing of the event for $10. Feel free to invite friends and other family members.  It should be a great baseball experience that baseball fans will enjoy.
