03 Feb HISTORICAL SOCIETY Zoom CALLS

The St. Louis reared Merritt was a big plus to the team by leading them in pitching appearances that year. It was an interesting mix of talent on that team as baseball was in the midst of change. Relocations were underway, and expansion was just a few years away as well. Of course Musial was the centerpiece of the team which also included an outfielder by the name of Boyer and Tom Alston – the first African-American to play for the club. Former Rookie of the Year Alvin Dark patrolled shortstop and future Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm toed the rubber alongside the two brothers named McDaniel. There was even a holdover from the 1944 World Series behind the plate.
There will be so much to talk about and their memories of baseball’s golden times. To register for the Zoom call, email stlbrowns@swbell.
