HISTORICAL SOCIETY Zoom CALLS

The Browns Fan Club continues to host regularly schedule Zoom Calls remembering baseball’s glory years.  On Friday February 12th at 11:30 CST we will remember the “glory days of baseball” from the 1950s with two former major leaguers who have regularly participated in our events over the year and wanted to share their baseball memories with you.  Joe Cunningham and Lloyd Merritt were teammates on the St. Louis Cardinals in 1957 – one of the few years in the 1950s that their team made a push for a pennant – finishing in second place.  Joe hit over .300 that year (actually batted over .300 during his seven years with the Cardinals).

The St. Louis reared Merritt was a big plus to the team by leading them in pitching appearances that year.  It was an interesting mix of talent on that team as baseball was in the midst of change.  Relocations were underway, and expansion was just a few years away as well.  Of course Musial was the centerpiece of the team which also included an outfielder by the name of Boyer and Tom Alston – the first African-American to play for the club.  Former Rookie of the Year Alvin Dark patrolled shortstop and future Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm toed the rubber alongside the two brothers named McDaniel.  There was even a holdover from the 1944 World Series behind the plate.

There will be so much to talk about and their memories of baseball’s golden times.  To register for the Zoom call, email stlbrowns@swbell.net and the confirmation link will be disseminated to registrants on the evening of February 11th.   You are not going to want to miss this.  It will be a time filled with very special memories.  Also, if you have a question or two for Joe and Lloyd, please include them in your registration email.
