03 Feb HISTORICAL SOCIETY Zoom CALLS W Frank Saucier
On Friday March 5th we had a Zoom call and a conversation with former Brownie Frank Saucier. This has been a session with the Browns Fan Club that has been years in the making and one we are really going to enjoy. Frank, who was raised in Washington, MO, not only had a fascinating baseball career, he had a fascinating life. As a player, Frank had one of the greatest minor league careers ever, but he gave up his glory days of baseball to serve his nation in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. Frank also had a little something to do with that “little Eddie” episode as well and we will get his thoughts and memories. In his three year stint as a Brownie minor leaguer, Frank hit .357 for Belleville, .446 at Wichita Falls, and .343 for San Antonio. The .446 was the highest recorded minor league average at the time and the .343 got him named the 1950 Minor League Player of the Year in 1950 and on the cover of The Sporting News. Frank will offer tales of the DeWitt and Veeck ownerships and how the latter wooed him back for a short stint before his country called him to serve.
